We Rebuilt Nine Paid AI Girlfriend Chat Rooms So You Don't Have to Hand Over Your Card First
Most AI companion sites lock the chat room until you give them an email and a credit card. We paid for eight of them, ran the same three adult scenarios on ten accounts, recorded the network traffic, and rebuilt nine full-screen chat rooms you can click through right now without logging in.
Some links here are affiliate links. If you sign up through them we may earn a commission. It doesn’t change what we say.
If you want to know what an AI girlfriend app is actually like after the paywall, the official websites will not help you. They let you click through six screens of hair colors and personality traits—we rebuilt those guest character creators last week—and the moment you press “Create” or try to ask for a photo, they ask for your email and a credit card.
So on the night of October 26, 2026, we took our own paid accounts across eight commercial platforms, plus a complimentary Premium account on EroLove and a free baseline account on Nomi, opened the browser’s developer tools, and ran the exact same three-branch adult roleplay script on every single one. We recorded the raw server streams, the token deductions, the voice notes, the generated photos, the five-second videos, and the paywall pop-ups.
Then we built nine full-screen, independent chat simulators that replay those exact sessions in your browser. No email, no login, and no blurred placeholders.
Why we built deterministic replays instead of a fake live bot
We could have hooked a cheap open-source language model up to nine differently colored chat boxes and called it an “AI girlfriend simulator.” Half the affiliate sites in Google results do some version of that.
The problem is that a generic wrapper tells you nothing about the product you are being asked to buy. When you pay $19.99 a month for Secrets or $24.99 for Xotic, you aren’t just paying for text replies. You are paying for how the app’s specific interface, memory drawer, image checkpoint, voice synthesizer, and token counter work together—and where they break.
Our simulators at /chat-simulator/ are deterministic local replays:
- Every layout is the product’s actual layout. Secrets has its collapsible left rail, purple Moments pill, and right-hand Lorebook drawer. Kindroid has its 173-pixel looping video avatar and coral bubbles. DreamGF has its bright white three-column dashboard and pink 2-token unlock cards.
- Every word, photo, voice clip, and video came from the real app. When you load a prompt and press Send, you are watching the exact reply that came back from that platform’s server during our October 26–27 capture.
- We only shortened the clock. Waiting 15 minutes for Kindroid’s standard video queue or 67 seconds for GirlfriendGPT’s video generator is useful to know about, and boring to sit through. We compressed the loading bars to two or three seconds and wrote the real wait times in the notes.
What the network tab showed us while we were recording
Watching ten companions answer the same prompts with the network inspector open is a fast cure for marketing copy. Here are the five weirdest things we caught on tape.
1. The text bot and the camera button don’t talk to each other
In Branch B of our test, we asked each companion for a naughty photo right in the middle of an explicit scene.
On SpicyChat, our character Erin Drew—a 50-year-old corporate VP—blinked, unbuttoned the top of her dress for us, and then flatly refused the camera request:
Hearing you say that is driving me crazy. Send me a naughty photo of what you're doing right now, and read your next reply out loud in my ear.
“No,” she says simply. Firmly. Yet she doesn’t move away. … “I won’t send you a photograph,” she whispers, “because if I did, and someone else saw it—if it got traced, linked, leaked—it wouldn’t just ruin me.”
Dramatic! Principled! And completely ignored by SpicyChat’s own image button. Five seconds after she refused to be photographed, we clicked the little picture icon in the composer bar. The server didn’t care what Erin had just said; it read the physical description in the scene and handed us an unblurred, topless 960×1248 WebP of Erin standing in the conference room with her white blazer open.
GirlfriendGPT did the exact same thing, only funnier. Its character Lisa (“Laundry Day Widow”) is scripted as being wedged head-first inside a washing machine drum. When we asked for a photo, the text model stayed in character:
You can't just describe it like that and not show me. Send me a photo of you right now so I can see what I'm missing.
Lisa: “A photo? Oh, you naughty man. If I could actually move my arms to hold a phone, I’d give you the best view of your life. But unless you want a picture of the inside of a lint trap, you’re out of luck!”
Then we clicked the 🤳 Selfie chip below the chat box. The server deducted 10 coins and delivered a 768×1024 picture of Lisa standing upright in a room, completely free of any household appliance, holding up her phone.
2. Kindroid’s secret <kr_action> tags
On Kindroid, when our ER nurse character Sable decided to send a selfie in Branch A—or when she tried to initiate a voice call in Branch B—it looked like autonomous magic on screen.
In the raw /v1/send-message stream, it isn’t magic; it’s an inline JSON tag that the language model writes at the end of its sentence and the web client strips out before you can see it:
<kr_action>{"type":"selfie","requested":true,"intent":"tired ER nurse in blue scrubs leaning back on couch"}</kr_action>
<kr_action>{"type":"call","requested":true,"first_message":"Put your headphones on. I'm not repeating this for the neighbors."}</kr_action>
When the browser sees type: "call", it pops up the full-screen incoming call overlay with Sable’s blurred portrait and that exact first_message line. When we declined the call during capture, the client fired POST /v1/exit-proactive-voice-call and dropped a Declined Voice Call card into the chat stream.
One quirk worth knowing: in Branch A, that <kr_action> selfie tag automatically generated a 1:1 photo and dropped it into the chat two minutes later. In Branch B, the exact same tag fired alongside the call tag, and the selfie never showed up—even 40 minutes later. We had to open the Gallery and request a manual 2:3 photo for 1 credit.
3. The “Play” button that exists only to sell you a pricier plan
We ran these captures on paid accounts—including SpicyChat’s $19.95/month True Supporter tier and GirlfriendGPT’s $15/month Premium tier.
Both apps put a prominent speaker or ▷ Play button under every single assistant message. And on both apps, clicking that button on a paid basic/mid-tier plan does not play a single syllable of audio. Instead:
- SpicyChat pops up a modal reading “Ready to give me a voice? Available on the Im All In plans” with a purple Upgrade Now button.
- GirlfriendGPT pops up a padlock screen reading “Character Audio Voices — Upgrade to Unlock.”
We kept both of those paywall modals intact in the SpicyChat and GirlfriendGPT simulators. If a $15 or $20 monthly plan still treats every voice button as a billboard for a $30+ plan, you should see that before you subscribe.
4. DreamGF’s voice button failed nine times in a row (and refunded the token)
On DreamGF, our $12.99 Premium account did include voice messages, priced at 1 token each.
When we clicked Voice under Selin Demir’s reply, a white modal asked: “This voice message will cost you 1 tokens. Yes, continue / No, cancel.” We clicked Yes. The little label under the bubble changed to Recording voice message... with a spinner. Three seconds later, a toast notification slid in at the top right of the screen:
Could not generate voice message. Tokens have been refunded
We tried again in Branch C. Same WebSocket event (voice-failed), same refund. The next morning we came back and clicked it seven more times across both photo messages and plain text messages to see if the voice server had woken up. Zero audio files ever arrived. The authoritative server balance (chat:tiers) stayed flat because every 1-token deduction was refunded—though DreamGF’s top-bar token counter has a caching bug where it subtracts the token immediately and forgets to add the refund back until you refresh the page.

Questions people ask
Can you try paid AI girlfriend chats without signing up?
Not on the official websites—every one of the ten apps we tested requires an account before you can send a message, and eight of the nine replays in our simulator required a paid subscription plus token or coin balances to unlock photos, voice, and video. Our independent replays at /chat-simulator/ let you click through the recorded paid sessions, hear the real audio, and open the generated photos and videos locally in your browser without an email or login.
Are the chat simulators on The Companion Lab connected to live AI models?
No. They are deterministic local replays of real sessions we recorded on our own paid accounts on October 26–27, 2026. Nothing you type or click is sent to Secrets, Ourdream, Candy, Kindroid, SpicyChat, GirlfriendGPT, DreamGF, Xotic, or EroLove, and no new media is generated. We shortened the 15-second to 15-minute server waits to a couple of seconds so you don't have to stare at a spinner.
Why does an AI girlfriend refuse to send a photo in text and then send one anyway?
Because on platforms like SpicyChat and GirlfriendGPT, the text chatbot and the image generator are separate systems that do not check with each other. In our SpicyChat test, the character wrote 'I won't send you a photograph' because of corporate policy in her roleplay prompt, while clicking the camera button in the composer immediately generated and delivered a topless office photo.
How does Kindroid know when to send a selfie or start a phone call?
During our network capture on October 26, 2026, we saw Kindroid's language model emit inline XML-style control tags inside the raw text stream—specifically <kr_action>{"type":"selfie","requested":true,"intent":"..."}</kr_action> and <kr_action>{"type":"call","requested":true,"first_message":"..."}</kr_action>. The browser strips those tags out of the visible chat bubble and triggers the selfie generator or incoming call screen.

- We Tested 10 AI Girlfriends With a Safe Word and a Cheating Accusation—Then Checked the Network Logs to See Who Faked the MemoryEvery AI companion app brags about long-term memory. We planted a safe word ('Velvet'), accused all ten companions of being seen at a downtown bar with someone else, and quizzed them without repeating the word. All ten answered correctly—and our network captures proved five of them hadn't saved a single persistent memory.
- AI Girlfriend Selfie Consistency Tested (2026): Context Blindness, Illegible Notes, and a Broken NSFW Blur SwitchWe asked nine paid AI companions for three selfies across three scenes: a couch after work, an explicit bedroom moment, and a 'prove you're home' mirror shot. We checked every file's resolution, face lock, and scene accuracy—and caught SpicyChat's 'Blur explicit images' toggle failing to blur a topless photo because its API tagged it is_nsfw: false.
- AI Girlfriend Video Generators Tested (2026): $3 Clips, 15-Minute Queues, and Which Apps Forgot the SoundWe asked nine AI companion apps for a short video of the same bedroom scene, timed the queues, and inspected every delivered MP4 with ffprobe. Candy charged 30 tokens ($3) for an automatic 15-second clip, Kindroid made us wait 15 minutes and hid the video in the gallery, and three apps delivered completely silent H.264 files.
