See what AI companion apps ask for before you sign up
AI companion apps let you design a character and chat with it. Most of them want an account, and often a payment, before you see much. This site shows you what you’d get first: replicas of four apps’ character creators that you can click through here, and reviews that say what each app costs and what we have and haven’t checked.
Everything here comes from our own walkthroughs, free accounts, plans-page screenshots and the apps’ public web code, in October 2026. We haven’t paid for any subscription. How we test.

Reviews
- Candy AI reviewA companion app with a short character creator. A guest can pick the look and personality, but has to make an account before Candy generates the character. On a free account the chat screen pushes Premium for unlimited messages.
- Ourdream AI reviewA browser-based companion app built around designing a character’s look and making pictures of them. You can walk most of the character creator as a guest, but it stops at a human check and a sign-up before you see the result.
- Secrets AI reviewA companion app with a six-step character builder and a “Reels” section of short interactive video stories. Guests can click through the whole builder, but creating the character opens a sign-up window.
- Kindroid AI reviewA conversation-first companion app. You have to log in before you see anything, and you write the character’s personality yourself. A free account gets a short preview of the premium chat model.
- Nomi AI reviewA conversation-first companion app with a short setup. On a free account it recalled facts from earlier in the chat and sent a selfie that matched what we asked for. We have only used the free tier.
