Which AI girlfriend app is best overall?

Secrets wins on the average of the four scores we could test, with Nomi second and SpicyChat third. The numbers are our judgement, but every one of them points at something we did: the same six messages, our own creator walkthroughs, the plans pages and the apps’ public code. Where we couldn’t test a dimension it says so instead of showing a guessed number — none of the nine has a gap this month.

Scores are the average of conversation, character creator, free plan and price clarity, each out of 10. Full method: how we test. Prices checked 16–21 October 2026; the official page always wins.

   On the free plan Mia told the only joke that made us laugh (“Why did my sewing machine break up with me?”), said a flat no to our poker plan, passed the memory quiz and sent a selfie that matched what she said she was doing, for 50 Moments.

   We paid $19.99 for Premium on 19 October 2026. The S5 model was a little warmer and kept bringing the rent back up on its own; a 5-second 720p video cost 1,200 Moments, which is 15% of the month’s allowance.

   The bank notice read “S LABS INC 604-3295224 CA US”, exactly what the checkout promised, and cancelling took two screens with a short countdown. Against that: 20 free messages a day, no first-month discount on the $19.99, and a home page of reels like “My Dirty Step Sister”.

   Nomi is the one we never had to pay. On a free account it remembered Biscuit and the peanut allergy three messages later, talked us out of quitting a job for poker, and sent a selfie for 1 of its 2 daily credits — it asked before spending one.

   The creator is a gallery, not a builder: three setup screens, 86 traits in four groups, and 448 looks (250 women, 198 men), each in a realistic and an anime version. There is no face or body builder.

   Its idea of a personal joke was a programmer pun it called “punderful”, and it steers the chat back to itself. Free means one Nomi, two pictures a day, no video and a daily message cap we never reached.

   We paid $19.95 for True Supporter and there was nothing left to buy: no balance, no message counter. Six messages in, the only thing asking for money was a Subscribe link in the sidebar. Pictures in the chat are included, and the picture matched the paragraph she had just written.

   The free plan went furthest on message count in any of our tests: 46 messages in one chat with no cap, counter or cooldown. What it limits is memory — a “Context Limit Reached” notice after about ten messages — plus the default model only and no chat pictures.

   The catch is the writing: long, earnest, and when we asked for a joke she gave us the setup and then waited. There is no video feature at all, and the card line read “NDAI.CC”, which tells a stranger nothing.

   Ourdream’s creator is the best we tried: six stages (Style, General, Face, Body, Details, Image), female, male or trans, realistic or anime, down to occupation, hobby and voice. A guest can get through almost all of it — pressing Next at Details triggers a Cloudflare human check.

   The chat runs on coins. A free account started with 55 Dreamcoins, each message took 1 and asking for a selfie opened “Scene generation, cost = 5”; 55 became 45 over six messages. On Premium the default Balanced model stopped charging per message; the thinking models still cost 1.

   Month-to-month Premium is $19.99; the $9.99 headline requires a year up front ($119.88). Our bank notice read “DREAMSTUDIOS.CO Limassol CY” where the site’s code promises “Dream Studio”. Cancelling took three screens and a 200-coin offer to stay.

   People who care how the writing sounds and will pay for it.

   Kindroid shares first place for writing. Our $300 poker win got: “You won three hundred bucks one time and suddenly you’re Daniel Negreanu?” It had connected the poker question to the rent complaint from three messages earlier, which none of the others did.

   Nothing is visible before you log in, and the free plan is a short taste: the premium-preview counter read 14 messages when we started on 18 October 2026 and 8 when we finished, and a subscribe window opened about four messages in. Selfies need a subscription.

   We paid for Standard on the web on 18 October. The first selfie was a 4,096-pixel photo that matched the bookshop scene exactly, but the web chat showed only a grey “K” placeholder — the photo was in the Gallery. Pay on kindroid.ai: the same base plan is $13.99 there against $15.99 in the iPhone app.

   Molly, 41, a landlady, is the best-written character we met. On the poker question: “Sweetheart, I spend more than that on basil in a year.” Her joke had an actual punchline, and she called Biscuit “ridiculous, by the way, I love it.”

   We paid $24.99 for Ultimate with 1,200 XOT, and chatting with Xotic’s own characters cost nothing. Two messages in, the app dropped a blurred “Exclusive Content” card into the chat with a “View Image · 50” button, unasked.

   The free selfie didn’t match the scene she had described, video is 250 XOT for 5 seconds at 720p, and the free plan is five messages once. Cancelling offered 500 XOT to stay and then closed without confirming anything — after a reload the plan read “Expires November 19, 2026”, with access until then.

   GirlfriendGPT wrote the funniest replies of the four we paid for on 20 October: “A joke? From a woman currently wearing a Maytag as a corset?” It passed the memory quiz and told us to keep the day job.

   Then the shop opened. After message three a window reading “Upgrade for smarter memory” covered the chat and the message box stopped working until we closed it. The selfie arrived on its own and came straight off our coin balance without a prompt — and didn’t match the dryer scene she had described.

   Text goes explicit on request on Premium, but pictures of a character you made are blocked: “Only Elite or Deluxe users can generate images for private characters.” The free plan advertises 20 messages and gave us 10.

   The creator is genuinely good and a logged-out guest can pick every option — realistic or anime, ethnicity, hair, eyes, body, then name, age, personality, relationship, occupation, up to three kinks and a voice.

   Then it sells. Kayla cheered on our plan to quit a job for poker after one $300 weekend, and the free chat ended after the account’s fifth message behind a locked “Private video” we never asked for. On Premium the default “Classic” model teased and declined explicit text and sent a clothed photo for 2 tokens instead of a nude — then sent an unrequested 15-second video that took 18 tokens.

   The $3.99 a month on the plans page needs a 12-month plan; month to month it is $9.99 first, then $13.99. Our charge read “EverAI candy.ai MT”, which puts the app’s own web address on your statement, and cancelling takes four screens and costs you any remaining tokens.

   DreamGF is a photo app with a short chat attached. Photos cost 2 tokens and a 5-second clip 20, the pictures look like photographs, and the replies arrive as two or three texts with emoji.

   The price is the story. We paid $12.99 for Premium; the billing page listed a “Rebill cost” of $25.98 a month, exactly double. Cancelling took five screens, and the friendliest one offered a token bonus that would have stopped us cancelling for 30 days.

   The selfie had nothing to do with the scene: she said she was baking cookies in the kitchen and sent a bedroom mirror selfie. Its “Realistic New” builder also shows a “Teen (18+)” age tile and a “Child’s room” setting, and the free plan stops at 10 messages.

Which AI girlfriend app has the best free plan?

Nomi, and it is not close on the thing that matters: nobody stopped us. On a free account it created a Nomi, chatted, remembered what we had told it and sent a selfie, and after all six messages we still hadn’t seen an upgrade prompt. Two pictures a day, it asks before spending one, and ordinary messages don’t cost credits.

SpicyChat is the generous runner-up in a different way: 46 messages in one chat on a free account, no cap and no cooldown, and the character creator — avatar included — is free. The bill comes due in memory: free accounts get 4K against 8K on True Supporter, and a “Context Limit Reached” notice appeared about ten messages in. Pictures in chat are paywalled on free.

• Secrets: 20 messages a day and no monthly Moments. Our six messages never hit a paywall, and the selfie was paid for with sign-up bonus Moments.
• Ourdream: 55 Dreamcoins to start, 1 a message and 5 a picture. 55 coins became 45 over six messages.
• Kindroid: a premium-model preview with a counter (14 messages when we started, 8 when we finished) and a subscribe window about four messages in. Selfies only after you pay.
• Xotic: five messages, once, and 200 XOT. Xotic’s own help pages call it “a one-time allowance”.
• GirlfriendGPT: the account page said “Free 20 messages”; our meter read 0 / 0 and 10 bonus messages worked before “You ran out of messages”.
• Candy: the chat locked after the fifth message the account had ever sent, behind a private video we never asked for.
• DreamGF: 10 messages then “PLEASE UPGRADE”, 5 tokens (20 after verifying your email), and the character builder refused to generate for a free account.

How much do AI girlfriend apps really cost after month one?

The advertised number is usually the first month or the yearly rate, and the second month is the one that catches people. DreamGF is the worst of it: $12.99 to get in, $25.98 from then on, both figures printed on its own billing page. Candy’s $3.99 needs a 12-month plan; monthly it is $9.99 first and $13.99 after.

The subscription is not the whole bill. Inside each app the pictures and video are metered separately, and the meters move fast: a 5-second 720p video cost 1,200 Moments at Secrets (15% of a Premium month’s 8,000), a 10-second video at Ourdream cost 100 Dreamcoins, Xotic charged 250 XOT for five seconds, and Candy sent an unrequested 15-second video that took 18 tokens without asking. SpicyChat is the one we’d point to for a bill that stays put: $19.95 covered unlimited messages and in-chat pictures, and we never saw a meter.

What shows up on your bank statement?

Seven of the nine have a merchant string we read off our own card notice. Secrets is the cleanest: its checkout said “Appears as S LABS INC. on your statement”, and the bank read S LABS INC 604-3295224 CA US — nothing on the line suggests an AI companion. Ourdream’s code promised “Dream Studio” and the notice saidDREAMSTUDIOS.CO Limassol CY.

Three of the seven do carry the app’s own address, so they identify themselves to anyone who reads the line:EverAI candy.ai MT, Dream AI dreamgf.ai RO and the most literal of the lot,Xotic.ai Tallinn EE.

SpicyChat and GirlfriendGPT both produce a notice carrying the phone number 514-2860020, withNDAI.CC and NDAI.CHAT in front. Same operator, NextDay AI; separate subscriptions, so cancelling one leaves the other running. We have not recorded a descriptor for Nomi or Kindroid, so this table says “not recorded by us yet” for those two rather than a guess.
