Half the appeal of a hosted companion app is that you do not have to wire up a model yourself. All nine apps here are hosted, all nine sat the same six-message test, and eight of them took our money.

Have we tested Janitor AI itself?
No. Janitor AI appears in our DeepSeek roleplay write-up only as one of the setups people use to run their own companion chats, alongside SillyTavern and OpenRouter. We have not reviewed it: no six-message test, no paid month, no card notice.
Every app on this page is hosted. You make an account — Kindroid’s login screen offers Google, Apple or email — pick a character and talk: no API key, no local model, no per-token bill from a model provider. The nine include five that we ran on free accounts and four that we paid a month for.
What does hosting cost, and who charges extra?
Prices we paid or read in October 2026: Kindroid $13.99 a month on the web, GirlfriendGPT $15, Nomi $15.99, SpicyChat $19.95, Secrets $19.99, Ourdream $19.99, Xotic $24.99, DreamGF $12.99 for the first month then $25.98, Candy $9.99 for the first month then $13.99.
The subscription is only part of it. SpicyChat left us with nothing to buy after the $19.95 plan. Nomi’s paid plan lists unlimited messages and 40 photo requests a day, and it charges credits for video, but we never paid for Nomi, so those two limits are untested. Secrets, Ourdream, Xotic, DreamGF, Candy and GirlfriendGPT all sell pictures, video or messages on top, and Ourdream charges a coin per message on the free plan.

Graded “good” when the reply did the job, “meh” when it half did, “miss” when it got it wrong, and “No reply” where the app never got that far — Candy’s free chat locked after five messages, so rounds five and six have no answer. Free-round winners are the ones we wrote down at the time; the paid rounds have no written winner line, so every app we graded “good” shares the round.

What do the nine tested apps cost and bill as?
One month of the plan we checked, the free plan as we found it, and the merchant string from our own card notice where we have one. We have no notice for Nomi or Kindroid, so those rows say so.

What should you check before you switch?
- Know what the plan does not include. SpicyChat’s $19.95 covers in-chat pictures; on Nomi, selfies come out of a daily picture allowance; the others meter media.
- Check whether you can see the app before signing up. Kindroid and Nomi both require a login first.
- Look at the cancellation flow. DreamGF’s five screens include a bonus that stops a cancellation for 30 days.
- Keep a note of the statement name. Secrets and GirlfriendGPT both named their statement line at checkout and matched it; the others did not.

Kindroid does. Its chat model menu offered Polaris, Ember, Reverie (V8.5), Lyric, Lucid and two Rhapsody versions on a paid account. Candy also offers a choice of chat models, but we only tested its default “Classic” one.
What do the hosted plans cost in the first month?
From $9.99 (Candy’s first month) to $24.99 (Xotic Ultimate). DreamGF’s $12.99 first month doubles to $25.98 on the rebill, which its billing page states before you pay.
