Best Replika alternatives: the 9 apps we tested, ranked
People leave a companion app for one of two reasons: it forgot something that mattered, or it started charging for the thing they came for. Our nine-app test measured only a little of the first — three messages of memory — and all of the second.

Readers looking to switch from Replika usually want a companion whose memory and conversation hold up over months; below are the 9 apps we did test ourselves in October 2026, eight of them paid for with our own cards.
Have we tested Replika itself?
No. We have no Replika account, no six-message log and no paid month to report on. We have not seen its bank descriptor either, so we cannot tell you what it prints. This page does not score it.
What we can offer is a like-for-like comparison of nine apps on the same six messages: venting, two planted facts, a joke, a bad financial idea, a memory quiz three messages later, and a selfie request. The memory quiz is a small test. Memory over weeks is on our not-tested list for several of the apps below, and we say so where it applies.
How did the tested apps do on memory?
Four apps passed the quiz on the free test: Secrets, Nomi, Kindroid and Ourdream. Secrets also showed a memory panel that had filed four facts from the chat on its own, each with accept and decline buttons — the only app where you can read and delete what it kept.
Candy never answered: its free chat was already locked behind a “private video” five messages in. On the paid run all four passed — SpicyChat, GirlfriendGPT, DreamGF and Xotic — but SpicyChat had shown a “Context Limit Reached” notice ten messages into a free chat, and GirlfriendGPT interrupted a paid conversation with a memory upsell that froze the chat box.

Graded “good” when the reply did the job, “meh” when it half did, “miss” when it got it wrong, and “No reply” where the app never got that far — Candy’s free chat locked after five messages, so rounds five and six have no answer. Free-round winners are the ones we wrote down at the time; the paid rounds have no written winner line, so every app we graded “good” shares the round.

What do the nine tested apps cost and bill as?
One month of the plan we checked, the free plan as we found it, and the merchant string from our own card notice where we have one. We have no notice for Nomi or Kindroid, so those rows say so.

What should you check before you switch?
- Do not buy a year to fix memory. Our memory evidence stops at three messages; nobody has tested these apps over months.
- Pay on the web where you can. Kindroid is $13.99 on the web and $15.99 in the iPhone app for the same plan.
- Check what the free plan actually gives. Nomi gave us no paywall; Kindroid gave us 14 premium-model messages; Candy locked the chat at five.
- Look up the statement line before you subscribe — our /billing/ pages have the seven we photographed.

Among the apps we tested, Secrets is the only one that showed us what it remembered: a panel with four facts from our chat, each with accept and decline buttons. Secrets, Nomi, Kindroid and Ourdream all passed our memory quiz, which came three messages after we planted the facts. We have not tested any of them across weeks.
Have you tested Replika?
No. We have not sent Replika our six messages, paid for a plan there or seen its card notice, so this page publishes no Replika score, price or statement name.
What is the cheapest way to keep talking to one character?
Free: Nomi, which put no paywall in front of us and gave us two selfies a day. Paid: Kindroid and Candy tie at $13.99 a month (Kindroid on the web — the same plan is $15.99 in the iPhone app, so buy it in a browser). Candy’s first month is $9.99, then $13.99.
Do any of these apps remember across weeks?
We do not know. Long-term memory is on the not-tested list for Secrets and Kindroid, and Nomi’s memory across days is untested too. Our only memory evidence is one quiz, three messages after we planted the facts.
